RDA, short for Rebuildable Atomizers, is the best device for you to get real good flavor out of your ejuice. When you use pre-made coils or pre-made wire on RDAs after a while, you may find that the coils gunk up and the flavor drops. What would you do in this case? Just replace it with another brand new pre-made coil? This sounds a bit wasteful. Actually you can clean the coil and rewick it and it’ll perform almost like a new one. In this blog we’re going to discuss about how to clean RDA coils.
When should you consider cleaning RDA coils?
Usually after you use the coils for about a week and notice some signs such as gunky, not performing like it used to, not getting as much flavor as you used to, when taking a longer hit it tends to get a bit burnt, you need to replace the wicks. And before wicking, clean the RDA coils first.
How to clean RDA coils?
- Remove the wicks.
This process is pretty simple. Just grab a pair of tweezers and pull the cotton from one end. If your wicks are super tight, don’t drag on the cotton too hard or you’ll damage your coils. Instead take a corner of one side and pluck at it until it fins out. As soon as it’s thin enough to go through the coil, pull on the other side and it’ll come out in one piece.
- Dry burnt the coils
While drying burnt the coils, excess ejuice will come out of the coil. And the gunk will be burnt off as well.
- Use a wire brush to brush the coils
If you don’t have a wire brush, just use any clean brush that have a bit stiff bristles. And brush the coils till the color gets lighter, some can be as light as it’s new.
- Rinse the coils
Rinse the coils under warm water, the excess gunk will come off.
After the above four processes, you can dry burn the coils again to get the excess water out and rewick again. With the cleaned coils, when you take a longer hit you won’t get dry hit and the flavor is back. This process does not last forever though, it depends on the coils you install. You’re suggested to use new coils after using the coils for about a month. Also please note that this method only works for rebuildable coils that you install by yourself, not subohm coils.
